For the Love of Festival Braids

For the Love of Festival Braids

Many people have learned new skills or found new hobbies during their lockdown time.

I’ve been a hairstylist for eight years and I gained an interest in festival braids after going to EDC Orlando in 2019.

I saw so many amazing braided looks in an array of colors!

When I suddenly found myself with more free time than I ever imagined I would have, I took full advantage of the situation and started watching tutorials and researching.

I discovered Hailee Fortune; @Haileekayhair on Instagram and she has become a big inspiration to me!

Her braids are some of the best I’ve ever seen. I realized that, because of her, it’s possible to combine my career with my other passion, music festivals!

I watched a few of her Instagram Live classes and soon I hope to have the opportunity to take one of her in-person classes.

I then ordered hair from Get Braidified and I started practicing different styles on myself.

I have really enjoyed learning the techniques to achieve smooth and long-lasting braids.

Product such as a light paste or pomade is great to get some control and grip.

I work with L’Oreal Professionnel products at my salon and prefer using their Architexture Paste.

Getting the braids as close to the head as possible is key to preventing fly-aways and ensuring style longevity.

Braids are great to have done for festivals because they last all weekend long and you can spend more time with your friends instead of styling your hair every day.

Your hair stays off your face and neck while you stay cool and dance your heart out!

They are low maintenance; all you need to do is sleep in a silk head covering and lay on a silk pillowcase to prevent friction and frizz.

Especially if you are camping and don’t have the resources to style it, braids are definitely the way to go!

You can also get them color coordinated to really pull all your outfits together and make people stop and stare!

Accessories such as string, glitter, flowers, or beads can be added to make the look your own.

Raves are about freely expressing yourself and a custom set of festival braids can help you do just that!

I am so excited to start creating custom braided looks for my fellow ravers when festivals return.

I can’t wait to see the friendships it brings me and where it takes me in the future!

If you see me at a festival please say hello and I would love for you to connect with me on Instagram. @unicorn_ninja815.
